Portsmouth was a military port of high importance for centuries and was also Admiral Nelson's launching point for his fleet which went on to victory in the battle of Trafalgar. Bombed during both World War 1 & 2 the city was rebuilt quickly & ended up with some not too pretty architecture but in recent times waterfront areas like Gunwharf Quays have been redeveloped & have given the city a new lease of life.

Portsmouth is located on the south coast of England 64 miles southwest of London & 20 miles east of Southampton. The closest airport is Southampton airport located 30 minutes away by road. The handiest way to reach Portsmouth from anywhere in the UK is by rail. Once in Portsmouth you'll find the city is very condensed & everything can be easily reached by walking, there are certain areas where pubs & restaurants are grouped together making it easy to hop from one to another. Palmerston road is a good example of this but if the weather doesn't allow for walking there plenty of taxis & buses to get you where you need to be.
