History:
Ipswich started out as a small Roman villa on what is now Castle Hill and didn't really grow any until after the 7th century after the arrival of the Anglo Saxons. The town experienced prosperity and recessions with the coming of the Vikings in the 9th and 10th centuries marking a downturn after the prosperity post Anglo Saxon arrival. While under Henry VIII's rule the town experienced a period of betterment seeing as Cardinal Wolsey was from there. The town's ship building industry prospered in the 16th and 17th centuries and was late to join the industrial revolution in the 18th in producing machinery, iron, and bricks and also in brewing.
