History:
The history of Limerick dates back to its creation by the Vikings, which was a walled city on King's Island (an island in the River Shannon). A castle was built with the orders coming directly from King John in 1200. It was besieged 3 separate times in the 17th century, resulting in the famous Treaty of Limerick and the flight of the defeated Catholic leaders abroad.
