Kiev feels as though several different eras are living side ' by ' side throughout the city. They often seem incompatible, but somehow they all blend together and create a distinct culture of Kiev. Look just to the left or fight and you'll see beautifully restored medieval buildings.
While some people are appalled by the Soviet influence here, it is, nevertheless, an important part of Ukranian culture, whether for better or for worse. Communism affected every aspect of people's lives and it certainly gives the city part of its special flavour. The city has all the comforts of the West with the Ukranians having nicely adapted to it and making it their own. Kiev is now bursting with slick new mall and fast food joints, and you'll definitely see a McDonalds on every corner.

Kiev is known for its fabulous architecture, e.g St Michaels of the Golden Glove. It is also known for its famous street of hreschatyik and independence square, the heart of the Russian Revolution. It is known for its fabulous underground shopping malls, its metro, Dynamo Kiev Football Club and the Olympia stadium. It also has fabulous restaurants and a great night life.
