This is Europe's 'Sin City'- there are many ways in which a bunch of stags can let off steam. The harbour makes this a booming city with a roaring trade and economy with ships going to and coming from all over the world docking every day. With its boundless selection of shops and its illustrious nightlife, its diverse selection of museums, churches and galleries and its extensive network of canals, lakes and green areas this has become a city with a truly unique and mythical identity.

Culture:

Museums abound here and the Museum Fur Hamburgische Geschichte is a fabulous place where the local history of Hamburg is charted from the ninth century to current times. The city has a rich artistic history and the Hamburger Kunsthalle is one of the largest art collections in the country with thousands of paintings, sculptures, medals and gold pieces. The city also has a long and valued relationship with horticulture and greenery. The Planten Un Blomen Park is the city centres colourful and dazzling green belt and stretches all the way down to the harbour. Here there are all kinds of glamorous gardens and recreational green areas with cafes, restaurants and even a music pavilion with free concerts at the weekend.

Famous for/must see:

The Miniatur Wunderland will be like heaven to any of your party who have ever had interest in train sets or models and will be a fascinating sight to see for everyone else. Words can't begin to describe the detail and the finery that has been put into this creation. Reserve places if at all possible, the queues can get long here. A port cruise in Hamburg is a very much recommended thing to do to see the wonders of this amazing city. It only takes a single hour to get great views of the place and to get a grasp for how waterways have shaped and developed the city.

Travel info:

Hamburg international serves all European destinations and is located 7 miles outside the city centre and is easily linked to the city by rail (20 mins). EasyJet fly there from London for as low as 60 pounds return.

Party ideas:

Your gang will be spoiled for choice in this vibrant European outpost. There are lots of exciting, adrenalin filled activities to sober you up each day and to fill your weekend with entertainment. The speed freaks among you will be floating on air when they see the options before them, be it off road jeeping, quad biking or indoor/ outdoor go-karting.

For the sharpshooters among you there are endless opportunities to flaunt your talents, be it clay pigeon shooting, paintballing or for the real hard cases in your party there is an outlet. That's right, with a trip to the Hamburg Shooting Centre you can cast the toys aside and pick up a Kalashnikov or other types of deadly hardware and have a pop.

Nightlife:

Hamburg will teach you things about revelry and debauchery that will make your hair stand up. This place will open the eyes of even the most laid back stag and demand that he drink up and join in the fun. The St. Pauli district can't be missed for its diverse plethora of bars, lounges and nightclubs. The Reeperbahn, its most famous and electrified thoroughfare has every kind of evening entertainment anyone could wish for from theatres and cabaret shows to music bars and throbbing cutting edge German nightclubs. The Schanzenviertel district is another lively nightlife area while Lange Reihe street and Grossnemarkt Square are also rich with options for evening travellers.

History:

The Hamburg we know today was founded as far back as the 9th century by missionaries intent on converting the Saxons. The city was an important port and trading centre throughout the middle ages. In the 12th century Hamburg became a state and despite one or two brief Danish occupations remained as so for several centuries. The city joined the Hanseatic League in the 14th century which brought a great period of prosperity to the city. The city survived through some of the worst devastations known to man, the 14th century Black Death and the great fire of 1842. These both decimated the town but either time it got back on its feet and prior to WWI it was a booming port, one of the largest in the world. The city state joined West Germany post WWII and it has been thriving ever since.

Food/Restaurants:

There is a fabulous selection of sea food and traditional German dishes made from the bounties of the rivers and the North Sea. As well as this there are an abundance of cosmopolitan eateries serving food favourites from the best of European cuisine. Abendmahl, a tasty little restaurant just off the Reeperbahn serves scrumptious French, Italian and German eats at prices that leave plenty of cash in your pockets for action round the corner. Hummer Pedersen on the harbour serves the freshest and tastiest sea food at a fraction of the cost the uptown restaurants will hit you with. Suryel is another well reputed server of affordable food that will suit pasta lovers or whichever of you fancy a break from sausages.

Overview:

Hamburg is the the largest city in Germany with a population of over 1.8 million. It is a very important port on the North Sea, being Germanys largest and Europe's second largest. It is a thriving city that bears a closer resemblance to Amsterdam or Copenhagen than to either of its German metropolitan rivals, given that the city is so dominated by waterways. A visit here is always guaranteed to go down well with the warmth and hospitality of the polite and liberal locals.
