nd this amazing city of 120,000 has the nightlife of a much larger city & keeping in mind that beer was only legalised in 1989! Unfortunately there is one negative to Reykjavik as a destination & that's the cost! A beer will generally set you back somewhere in the region of '10!! If this doesn't faze you then this really will be the experience of a lifetime. The city is full of cool bars & clubs which in turn are full of beautiful looking people who are extremely friendly & will embrace tourists with open arms.

Culture:

You'd be unlucky to arrive in Reykjavik on one of the rare weekends when there is no festival happening as there are 40 held per year from a horse festival to multiple art festivals. Reykjavik is an outstanding cultural hub as it has tons of museums, galleries & theatres not to mention some stunning natural gardens.

Travel info:

The main international airport servicing Reykjavik is Keflavik located 30 miles from the city centre. Direct flights are available from some UK airports but not from Ireland. 3 hours direct from the UK. Once in Reykjavik getting around is easily done on foot as the city is very compact, just remember to bring a warm jacket as the weather can be harsh!

Hen Ideas:

If you have the time to spare then taking a tour of the surrounding countryside is a spectacular thing to do, you'll get to see the geysers, volcano's & waterfalls close up, an experience you'll remember for ever. If you're brave enough to tackle the cold weather there are a few more adventurous activities that you can try like Ice Climbing! There'll be a fully qualified instructor on hand but this is something that will need a fresh body to do so not best done after a night on the beer. Snorkelling is another great activity to do but it won't be as comfortable as in the Caribbean but the scenery is way more spectacular.

Nightlife:

There is only one area of focus when it comes to party time, Laugavegur which is the main street & the streets off it is where all the pub & clubs are housed, It's not uncommon for an establishment to be a restaurant or caf' by day & turn into a lively pub at night so don't be alarmed if you're walking around during the afternoon & can't see many bars.

Due to the price of beer in the bars a lot of locals drink at home early & only hit the pubs around midnight so pace yourself if you want to stay going till 5am! This is around the time most places stay open. A few of the more popular bars are Kaffibarinn on Bergstadastraeti 1, The English Pub on Austurstr'ti 12A & Vagamot on Vegamotastig 4. Caf' Solon on Bankastraeti 7A is an example of somewhere that's a bistro by day & cool nightclub by night attracting some of the top DJ's in Iceland.

Food & Restaurants:

Due to its geographic location you won't be surprised to know that seafood is very popular in Icelandic cuisine along with lamb which is the most popular meat. Due to the alcohol prices in Iceland you need to be careful when eating out & it's recommended to stick to water or soft drinks in order to keep the bill low. Some of the more popular restaurants are Caf' Solon on Bankastraeti 7A, Kina Husid on Laekjargata 8 are both good & are priced in the lower range, if you're looking for something more upmarket to celebrate the Hens last few days of freedom then Caf' Paris on Austurstr'ti 14 or Fish Company on Vesturg'tu 2a will be to your liking.
